Deb Haaland

President-elect Joe Biden has made history, nominating New Mexico Congresswoman Deb Haaland to serve as the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Interior.

A member of Pueblo of Laguna, Haaland, 60, would become the first Native American to serve as a Cabinet secretary.

Haaland made history in 2018 when she became the first Native American woman to serve in Congress after she was elected to represent the state’s 1st Congressional District.
