The state of Wisconsin reported 10,938 coronavirus tests on Thursday, of which 3,643 were positive, for a positive test rate of 33.3 percent.

The state is processing far fewer tests for novel coronavirus than it did at the peak in mid-November — barely over half the number on a daily basis — which is likely responsible for a sharp decline in the number of new cases confirmed each day.

From December 7-14, the state processed an average of 9,810 tests per day, a 48 percent drop since the daily testing rate peaked at 18,857 on November 13.

The seven-day positive rate for all people rose slightly to 27.8, up from 27.5, and the positive rate for all tests held steady at 10.7. The number of active cases continued its steady decline and is now just over 40,000 — about nine percent of the 448,414 total cases the state has confirmed to date.

The state of Wisconsin reported 60 COVID deaths on Thursday, and one previously reported death was removed from the data, so the total confirmed death toll rose by 59 to 4,255. An additional 75 people have tested positive for COVID but died of other causes. The seven-day daily death average rose slightly to 44.43, and the 14-day and 30-day averages held steady at 50.

The seven-day average of new cases per day fell slightly to 3,081.

The number of people hospitalized also continued to fall, dropping by 47 to 1,363. The ICU population also fell by 16 to 298.
