The 2019-20 North American tour of “The Color Purple” will stop in Madison from Feb. 18-23 at the Overture Hall.
TROIKA Entertainment announced that the tour for “The Color Purple,” the 2016 Tony Award® winner for Best Musical Revival, will visit more than 30 cities. Based on Alice Walker’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel and the Warner Bros./Amblin Entertainment motion picture, “The Color Purple is adapted for the stage by Tony- and Pulitzer-winner Marsha Norman with music and lyrics by Brenda Russell, Allee Willis and Stephen Bray.
There will be a “Meet The Artist” event on Thursday, Feb. 20, 6 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to stay after the show for a brief, informal Q&A session in the theater with the artists.
“The Color Purple: The Novel, The Movie, The Musical – A talk by Sandra Adell” will also take place Saturday, Feb. 22, 6 p.m.
In this presentation, Professor Adell will discuss how Alice Walker’s 1982 novel helped to bring national attention to African American women writers and the controversies that continue to plague it regarding subjects that have caused it to be banned in numerous libraries throughout the country.
