Hanah Jon Taylor’s vision to establish a permanent home for jazz in Madison is now a reality. The jazz saxophonist, music educator and impresario is opening Cafe CODA, a premiere space for world-class jazz and creative music on Saturday, Sept. 8 at 1224 Williamson St., on Madison’s east side.

Live music performances will be scheduled Wednesdays through Saturdays with weekend ticketed events featuring regional, national and international acts.

The Grand Opening begins at noon on Sept. 8 with a community drum circle, followed by an afternoon open house. The evening performance features world-renowned Chicago/Detroit-based jazz pianist and bandleader Alexis Lombre and her ensemble.

Though a Chicago native, Taylor has been in Madison for over two decades. Taylor has performed all over the world and will use his lifelong connections to bring in artists and musicians. Café CODA will pride itself as a true listening space dedicated to the presentation of traditional, contemporary, and creative music.

In its initiative as an arts-centric community hub, Café CODA will also present workshops and master classes as well as musical viewing and weekly listening experiences, according to a press release, and in its broader vision, Café CODA will seek to be a strategic Midwest venue attracting listeners, patrons and artists from surrounding major municipalities like Chicago, Minneapolis, Milwaukee and beyond.
