The Madison Music Collective proudly presents Chicago Yestet in exclusive local concert Friday, Sept. 4, 9 p.m. at the Brink Lounge, 701 East Washington Ave.
The Chicago Yestet is a band with 7 horns, rhythm section, some spoken word, and a great vocalist. They play original music that grooves and the band includes some of the best and busiest musicians in Chicago.
With a mind to social consciousness, their music is influenced by John Coltrane, Art Blakey, Bob Brookmeyer, The Beatles, Donny Hathaway, Aretha Franklin, James Brown, J.S. Bach, P.D.Q Bach, Thad Jones, Spike Jones, Neil Young, Lucinda Williams and many others.
According to Yestet leader Joel Adams: “The name is simply my incessant curiosity with word games and bad puns. A 9-piece group is a ‘nonet’ so what’s a 13 – piece group? I have no idea but I just thought, with as much negativity as there is in the world, why not call it the ‘Yestet’? Who doesn’t like the word ‘yes’ after all? There’s power in that word!”
