“Madison College: The 2024 Black/African Graduate Celebration” will celebrate the success of Black/African graduates from local high schools, colleges, and universities on Friday, May 3, Madison College announced on Thursday afternoon.

The African Association of Madison (AAM) and Madison College are inviting all 2023-2024 African/Black high school and college/university graduates in the greater Madison area to the Black/African Graduation Dinner and Reception.

“This wonderful experience is to honor African and African American students, who through unyielding determination, have successfully achieved their academic goals,” said Madison College Community Impact Team member Dr. Jimmy Cheffen. “It provides a space to celebrate them, their families, and our culture, and announce their presence in this world.”

The event will celebrate and honor the intellectual power and innovative skills Black and African graduates bring to the work, social and economic fabric of Madison, according to a press release from Madison College, and will honor African and African American heritage and culture, which culminates with a Kente Ceremony where traditional stoles are presented to the graduates.

Wisconsin’s first African American Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes and Michael Ford, known as the “Hip-Hop Architect,” will offer inspiration to graduates. Ford has been heralded on the Today Show, Rolling Stone, and The Oprah Winfrey Network.

The event registration deadline is Friday, March 15. Register here.
