Wisconsin now has 5,957 confirmed cases of coronavirus infection, an increase of 183 cases since Saturday. That daily increase is lower than the increases over the past two days, which each saw increases of more than 300.

Brown County remains the state’s hotspot, with 56 new cases to bring the Green Bay area to 298 cases per 100,000 residents — the highest per capita rate in the state.

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services reports that 9.65 percent of all tests processed in the last 24 hours came back positive — down from 11.4 percent on Saturday. The number needs to come down every day for 14 consecutive days before the state will implement Gov. Tony Evers’ “Badger Bounce Back” plan to reopen the state’s economy.

The state also reports six more fatalities, bringing the death toll to 272.

Hospitalizations remain steady, with 337 people reported to be in the hospital, 136 in intensive care. Nearly 95 percent of those in the hospital are on mechanical ventilators.

A disproportionate impact among Latino people continues to rise, as they now make up 24 percent of those tested positive. Latino people make up about seven percent of the state’s population overall. About 25 percent of those tested positive are Black, compared to about six percent of the overall population.
