Dane County coronavirus cases continues to increase Friday, as 96 new cases were reported — the second highest single-day increase since the beginning of the pandemic. The county hit 105 yesterday.

On late Thursday afternoon, Public Health Madison Dane County (PHMDC) updated the current order in Phase 2 limiting gatherings to 10 or fewer and though keeping bars at 50% capacity, allowing only seated service with members of their own household and no standing service allowed.

PHMDC also said Thursday that through contact tracers recent increases were as a result of family and friend gatherings and socializing at bars.

Today’s new cases continue the trend of most new cases being discovered in younger people. Of the 96, two are in children under 10, seven are aged 10-19, and 70 are aged 20-29.

Dane County reports no new fatalities today, leaving the death toll here at 32.

We will have another update of statewide statistics this afternoon.
