Dane Dances, one of Madison’s most diverse summertime events that annually brings together people of all ages, races, and ethnicities, will kick off its 23rd season on Friday, Aug. 5, at the Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center rooftop.
“This year Dane Dances is celebrating the contributions of those who have left us much too soon,” said longtime Dane Dances Board President All Cooper in a statement. “We refuse to forget their contributions to Dane Dances over the years.”
Dane Dances provided bios of some of the great Madison community members who have passed away over the years including:
⦿ Laurie Burnstein Mlatawou aka “DJ Laurie”. DJ Laurie was the DJ for Dane Dances for many years, keeping the dance floor hopping with salsa and line dancing. DJ Laurie brought exceptional joy to everyone, the Dane Dances “MAGIC”.
⦿ William (Bill) Thomas Patterson. Bill was a founding Board Member for Dane Dances and enjoyed photographing the events, taking thousands of photos. Bill served on every committee of Dane Dances. Bill was an enthusiastic volunteer.
⦿ John Patrick Conway left us this year. John was the Vice President of Dane Dances Board for many years, Stage Manager and Chair of the Band Committee. John was our Peacekeeper.
Week 1 of Dane Dances will feature Latin Pride Orquesta and Eddie Butts Band. Week 2 will feature BBI and VO5. Orquesta Salsoul Del Mad and Luisito will be the featured performers for week 3 and Sisters of Element and Storm Chaser Orchestra with special guest T.L. Williams will highlight week 4.
