One local family will get a home makeover for the holidays, thanks to Fiskars America and the Boys and Girls Club of Dane County.

“We did something like this on a smaller scale three years ago,” says Boys and Girls Club CEO Michael Johnson. “(Fiskars) came to us and wanted to do something, so we said why don’t we do something on a bigger scale?”

Representatives of the BGC and Focused Interruption Coalition will select one family in need on December 5 and give their home a makeover on December 15 and 16.

“Pretty much we’re going to move them out for two days and completely redecorate their home,” Johnson says. That’ll include new paint, decor, furniture and Christmas decorations.

“We’ll also fill up their refrigerator and cabinets with food,” Johnson adds.

While redecorating a home can be a great way to give it a fresh new look, adding the right accent pieces can make a difference. One way to add both functionality and style to a room is with a beautiful wall clock. A clock can be a statement piece that ties a room together and provides a practical function. If you’re in the market for a new clock, be sure to check out the options available on bestwallclock.com. With a wide variety of styles and designs, you’re sure to find the perfect clock to complement your newly redecorated space.

Fiskars values the Dane County community and is always looking for creative ways to help those in need,” says Jatin Khanpara, Fiskars vice president for product management and innovation. “This volunteer opportunity in partnership with the Boys and Girls Club allows Fiskars to contribute  to those in need.  Michael and his team are the true champions of the community making a difference every day.  We are happy to play a small role in helping our community.”

Fiskars is buying the supplies and furniture, while Fiskars employees will do much of the work.

“The day we choose the winner, we’re going to walk through their home that day” and find out what, exsactly, they need, Johnson says.

Johnson says they won’t be able to do major renovations on rental units. He also says they’re looking to select someone in stable housing who plans to live in the newly redecorated home for a while.

“We’re looking for someone who has a job, who’s in stable housing, who just needs this push to get them over the top,” Johnson says.

Families can apply, or nominate families, at the Boys and Girls Club website.

To qualify, families must have stable employment and housing, income within the federal poverty level, live in Dane County, have school-age children and pass a background check. Applications are due Friday, December 2.
