Forward Madison have signed 23-year-old defender Mikey Maldonado for the upcoming 2022 season, the club announced in a release Monday.

Maldonado was born in San Antonio, Texas and has most recently been playing with North Texas SC.

“Mikey has a great personality within the group,” Director of Soccer Operations and Development Keith Tiemeyer said in a statement. “His versatility makes our squad better, he’s comfortable on the ball whether it be out wide or centrally. Mikey has great discipline as a defensive player, we can’t wait to see what he does for Forward Madison.”

The 5-foot-9 defensive man played his youth soccer with the San Antonio Surf Soccer Club. In 2019, Maldonado joined San Antonio Runners SC in the United States Premier League. Maldonado spent two seasons with the club before joining North Texas SC in 2021 after earning an invitation to preseason camp after impressing at an open tryout.

The defender primarily has spent his time playing right back, but has played some centerback and center midfield. With North Texas SC, Maldonado made 26 appearances including 15 starts.

Expect the Texas-born defender to fit right in with the pink and blue’s defensive scheme.
