Cuban goalkeeper Raiko Arozarena has joined Forward Madison FC on a season-long loan from Tampa Bay Rowdies of USL Championship, the club announced Tuesday.

On the other end of the deal, Madison will send goalkeeper Phil Breno to the Rowdies, also for the rest of the 2022 campaign.

Arozarena, 24, has made four starts for the Rowdies this year, where he’s served as the backup to CJ Cochran. For the previous three seasons, he played for clubs in Mexico. He also played for the Cuban U20 National Team. He is the brother of Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Randy Arozarena.

Breno, 26, has made 13 starts for the Mingos in 2022. The move a return to the Championship, the second tier of American soccer, for Breno, who previously played for Charleston Battery.

“As terribly sad as it is to leave Madison, this business is all about progress,” Breno said in a text message to Madison365. “I’m looking forward to the experience at testing my abilities against some of the best players in the Championship on a daily basis!”

Backup keeper Parker Smith started in Madison’s win over Northern Colorado last weekend. The fourth-place Mingos take the field again Saturday as they host South Georgia Tormenta.
