As if the snowpener wasn’t enough, USL League One decided to move Forward Madison’s 2020 home opener even earlier on the calendar.
Forward Madison’s first-ever league match at Breese Stevens Field last April 27 had to be delayed by 30 minutes to plow snow off the field, and ended in frigid and sloppy 0-0 draw with Greenville in front of more than 4,000 fans who had a great time anyway.
Apparently the league liked it, and has scheduled the 2020 home opener for the Flamingos nearly two weeks earlier in the spring, April 11.
Forward Madison will host Toronto FC II.
The team’s second season will get underway March 28 at Richmond Kickers.
Along with its USL League One season, Forward Madison will enter the U.S. Open Cup sometime between April 7-9, U.S. Soccer announced last week. That means it’s possible the Flamingos could play their first competitive match at Breese Stevens Field before Toronto comes to town.
Forward Madison finished fourth in the USL League One in 2019, losing 2-0 in the semifinal to ultimate champions North Texas SC.
