Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers today ordered flags over state office buildings to half staff in honor of Rick Hill, a long time council member of the Oneida Nation who served two terms as Chairman who died Friday at the age of 66.
Oneida Nation Chair Tehassi Hill also ordered Oneida Nation flags to half staff.
Hill served as vice chair and council member beginning in 1977, and presided as chairman from 1990-93 and again from 2008-11.
Also in 1990-93, Hill served as Chairman of the National Indian Gaming Association in Washington, D.C., a national tribal advocacy organization that represented 168 federally-recognized tribes in the gaming industry with revenues reaching $7 billion dollar annually.
After retiring from Oneida politics, Hill pursued real estate and investing, forming two companies to identify and develop economic development projects in Indian Country.
Visitation and funeral services will take place in De Pere on December 18 and 19 and continue at the Oneida Longhouse on the Oneida Reservation.
