Four Minneapolis police officers have been fired following the death of an unarmed black man in police custody Monday night after a white officer was seen kneeling on his neck for several minutes during his arrest.

The Minnesota man has been identified as George Floyd, who police say was in his 40s, and was identified as the victim by his sister on Facebook. Minneapolis Police Chief Medaria Arradondo announced the decision at a press conference Tuesday afternoon. The four officers involved have not been identified.

“This is the right call,” Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said on Twitter Tuesday.
