Jenkinson’s Aquarium boardwalk gift shop at Point Pleasant Beach in New Jersey fired a gift shop worker who made a group of black girls on a camp trip leave the store last week.

The woman, whose name has not been released by Jenkinson’s, told the group on Aug. 10 that they needed a chaperone to be in the boardwalk gift shop. Even after the girls brought a chaperone back with them, the woman asked the girls to leave again telling them that they were “not welcome” in a video that has now gone viral.

In a statement, according to the Asbury Park Press, Jenkinson’s media relations director Toby Wolf said the incident “does not reflect the core values of the boardwalk.”

“In our 90-year history, Jenkinson’s has always been and will continue to be the place where people from all races, religions, ages, genders and cultures are welcome,” Wolf said. “We are committed to fostering, cultivating and preserving our culture of diversity and inclusion. Jenkinson’s will also be conducting a diversity training program for its employees in the very near future to avoid this type of occurrence in the future.”

The girls were on a field trip to Jenkinson’s Aquarium with their summer program Princess to Queenz.
