The final day of the Dane County Fair this Sunday will be a celebration of family, community, and culture … with a distinct Latino flavor. La Movida Radio, the 24/7 Spanish-language radio station serving the Madison area and beyond, will take over the main stage at the Dane County Fair on Sunday, July 19, for an unforgettable day of nonstop entertainment that will culminate with headliner Guardianes del Amor.
Luis and Lupita Montoto, the co-founders, owners, and hosts of La Movida Radio, have a whole day of fun planned — including contests from La Movida, a dog show, Jalapeno eating, Mexican food, and boxing — that will bring in a large Latino crowd to the fair.
“We have some great things going on that day. We’ve got a big headliner coming in, Guardianes del Amor, that we’re really looking forward to,” Luis Montoto tells Madison365. “And the other thing that we’re featuring this year is having Romero’s Boxing School out of East Towne Mall. They will be sparring at the day concert on Sunday and working with the kids and adults.”
The Dane County Fair, held Thursday-Sunday, July 16-19, is an annual, family-friendly event at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, featuring free concerts, entertainment, great food, animals, and adventure. The first Dane County Fair was held in 1851 in Madison.
“La Movida brings the community together annually, and Dane County Fair is honored to host La Movida and one of the biggest days in Dane County’s Latino community,” Ian Heilmann, the general manager of the Dane County Fair, tells Madison365. “Join us on July 19th!”
Every night of the Dane County Fair, the main stage will feature a musical headliner. On Thursday, it will be Lost In a Name. On Friday, it will be the Cornfield Keg Party, and on Saturday, The Prince Experience will headline.
“The Guardianes del Amor are a pretty well-known band. They’ve been around since the ’90s,” Luis Montoto says. “We are excited to have them.”
“We’ve been doing this day at the Dane County Fair for a long, long time,” adds Lupita Montoto. “I believe the first one was in 2002 when we came on board with Midwest Family Broadcasting. Every single year, we’re proud that La Movida Day is always the day with the biggest attendance ever at the Dane County Fair. So we hope you know that this tradition continues and to keep breaking records every year. Hopefully, this year we will.”
The day will kick off with a deejay on stage and will be followed by high-energy dancing and crowd-favorite contests, and will culminate with the spectacular Guardianes del Amor. Sunday is also “Family Day” at the Dane County Fair. There will be a carnival ride special where attendees can purchase an unlimited ride wristband for $35.
“We love all of the Latinos that come out for this event every year, but we try to encourage and invite everybody that wants to be exposed to Latin culture to come out and enjoy the Mexican food and the great acts that we have on the stage,” Lupita Montoto says. “We are excited this year to have great performers and to have the boxing school there. It’s going to be amazing. They are going to have a real, actual boxing ring there for the sparring. So it’s going to be cool.”
