John Chaney

John Chaney, the legendary Hall of Fame basketball coach who led Temple men’s program from 1982-2006, passed away on Friday at the age of 89.

A Philadelphia legend, Chaney made five Elite Eights as the head coach at Temple. He retired after a 24-year coaching career with Temple in 2006. He was 516-253 (.671) as Temple’s coach.

He also won the Division II national championship while coaching at the HBCU Cheyney State in Philadelphia. Chaney was enshrined in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2001.
