In a letter sent to fans and posted on Facebook, Madison Latin jazz mainstay MadiSalsa announced they’re saying adios to the Madison music scene after 24 years of inspiring people to dance the salsa.

“It has been a memorable journey and one we will cherish the rest of our lives. To all of you, our loyal, devoted and faithful followers, friends, hermanos y hermanas, we want to say MUCHAS GRACIAS for your support, your love, your generosity with your time—especially during our lengthy late night performances—and, of course, for always making us feel special, helping us become one of the most durable and successful Latin bands in Madison, Wisconsin,” the band wrote in the letter.

The 11-member band has played music from Cuba, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic at festivals and gigs around the state since their debut at the Isthmus Jazz Festival in 1992. They’ve played Summerfest and River Rhythms in Milwaukee as well as the Orton Park Festival, Dane Dances, Jazz in the Park and many other festivals in Madison. They have also been regulars at The Cardinal Bar, Union Terrace and many other venues.

They also recorded and released two acclaimed albums, Del Caribe al Corazón in 1999 and Se Permite Bailar in 2003.

“We cannot express just how much we will miss everyone, especially our former and current fellow musicians that have shared the stage with us,” the goodbye letter reads. “But we assure all of you that we will keep in touch with you all through other musical collaborations across the state and beyond.”

MadiSalsa’s final performance is scheduled for this Friday’s Dane Dances, a free performance on the Monona Terrace Rooftop. Dane Dances is open 5:30 – 9:30 p.m.
