City of Madison Alder David Ahrens announced Tuesday he will not be running for reelection.

Ahrens represents District 15, which encompasses many neighborhoods on Madison’s far east side.

Ahrens said he made the decision after some consternation.

“I have decided not to run again for alder. It has been an honor to represent the district and I have worked hard to merit that support,” Ahrens said in a blog post.

Ahrens said at times it has been frustrating, citing the Judge Doyle Square project, but also very rewarding due to the opportunity to learn and serve constituents.

“I has also been heartening to work with so many people who are committed to improving their neighborhoods,” Ahrens said.

Ahrens is currently the District 15 alder. The spring election will be April 2.

Alders Sarah EskrichMark Clear and Denise DeMarb also announced this year they would not be staying on the Common Council.
