Madison College’s Division of Climate and Culture is hosting an art show that showcases the outstanding work of Native American artists from Wisconsin in “Indigenous Wisconsin: A Story of Resistance,” which aims to delve into and exhibit the rich cultural stories and enduring spirit of 12 Tribal Nations.

The featured exhibit piece is “Reflections of Healing” by contemporary Native American artist Christopher Sweet, according to a press release from Madison College, and this acrylic painting was inspired by the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on minorities, particularly on Native American communities. Sweet, an enrolled member of the Ho-Chunk Nation and also White Earth Ojibwe through his father, was also inspired by the work of photographer Eugene Tapahe, who launched “Art Heals: The Jingle Dress Project”.

The exhibit, on display from Nov. 6-Dec. 6, also features 24 other Indigenous artists from across Wisconsin, showcasing a mixed-media art show that celebrates a variety of artistic disciplines.
