Press Forward is a national movement to strengthen our democracy by revitalizing local news and information. A coalition of funders is investing more than $500 million to strengthen local newsrooms, close longstanding gaps in journalism coverage, advance public policy that expands access to local news, and to scale the infrastructure the sector needs to thrive.

The Open Call for Closing Gaps in Local News drew applications from more than 900 newsrooms across the country, of which 205 were chosen to receive funding. This is the first round of funding distributed by Press Forward, and is targeted at local independent newsrooms. Grantees come from all 50 states, Puerto Rico and Guam. Madison365 is one of five Wisconsin outlets to receive funding.

“We are deeply grateful to Press Forward and its funders for believing in the power and importance of local news, and for believing in us” said Henry Sanders, CEO of 365 Media and publisher of Madison365. “This funding will go a long way toward helping us grow and continue to do the work of amplifying stories and voices from across the state.”

Madison365 was founded in 2015 to cover Black, Latino, Indigenous and Asian American communities in Wisconsin.
