Amid ongoing transportation and busing issues throughout the district, the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) will be shifting to a modified three-tier arrival and dismissal system for elementary and middle schools beginning Monday, Nov. 6. High schools will not be impacted.
“Adjusting the start and end times for a number of schools will allow for more efficient use of First Student’s resources, while upholding MMSD’s belief in the necessity of a later start for our adolescents in our middle schools,” MMSD said in a press release on Monday afternoon. “MMSD leaders recognize the initial disruption this change may bring to families and staff; however, our goal is that this new system will ultimately lead to more reliable, safe, and equitable bus transportation moving forward across the district. Updated bus route information will be available in Infinite Campus and on the MMSD Transportation website Nov. 1.”
A number of external and internal groups shared input in the development of the new transportation plan to ensure as minimal impact as possible on programming, MMSD said, including the City of Madison, 4K & Early Childhood, Food & Nutrition, Specialized Transportation, After-School Programming, and MSCR.
