USL W League Madison has named Milwaukee Wave goalkeeper William Banahene to its technical staff ahead of the club’s inaugural season in May 2026.
Banahene, a veteran professional player and youth goalkeeper coach, also works with the Milwaukee Kickers and SC Wave, where he has helped guide athletes into collegiate programs including Syracuse University, the University of New Hampshire and the University of Nebraska.
“Willie is an incredible addition to the Madison W League staff,” Technical Director Liz Lawrence said in a statement. “His energy, enthusiasm, and deep experience elevate our entire program, and his leadership will be especially impactful in the growth of our goalkeepers.”
Head Coach Giuliano Oliviero echoed that sentiment, saying in the statement, “William brings a level of professionalism, intensity, and care that elevates everyone around him. His experience in the professional game and his ability to connect with young players will be a huge asset to our goalkeepers and our entire team.”
Banahene began playing goalkeeper at age eight and has since built a decorated career, earning the nickname “Will the Wall” with the Milwaukee Wave of the Major Arena Soccer League. He was an All-American at SUNY-Canton and still holds the all-time save percentage record at SUNY-Buffalo. Before joining the Wave, he spent two seasons with the Rochester Lancers, posting a 0.71 goals-against average as a rookie and earning Fourth Team All-NPSL honors.
“I’m excited to join the staff for 2026,” Banahene said in a statement. “I can’t think of a better group to begin the journey in Madison. I’m truly fortunate to be a part of it, and I can’t wait to get started.”
USL W League Madison will unveil its full brand and mission on December 12 at the Sylvee.
