Wisconsin’s Class of 2031 is beginning to take shape, and the deeper Madison365 Sports looked at the class, the more difficult it became to keep the list small. So we stopped trying.
The inaugural Madison365 Sports Wisconsin Class of 2031 Girls Basketball Watchlist features 89 players from across the state who have caught our attention and are worth following as they continue their basketball development.
This is not a ranking. There is no No. 1 player, and being listed first or 89th carries no significance. At this age, we think it is far too early to pretend we know exactly how the class will eventually sort itself out. Players are growing, their games are changing and many are still discovering what kind of players they can become. That is what a watchlist should be about.
Over the past several months, Madison365 Sports has continued to evaluate Wisconsin girls basketball through AAU competition, showcases, camps, small-group training, film, conversations with coaches and evaluators, and our own live observations. As we worked through the 2031 class, new names continued to emerge.
Some of these players are already familiar to people who follow girls basketball closely. Others may be names you are seeing for the first time. There are guards who can score, players who already understand how to run a team, shooters, defenders, versatile wings and young post players whose size and developing skill make them intriguing.
But this list is not meant to tell a seventh or eighth grader where she stands. It is meant to tell basketball fans who we believe is worth watching. That distinction matters.
Development at this age is rarely a straight line. The player receiving the most attention today may not be the best player three years from now. A young athlete who is still finding her confidence or growing into her body could look completely different by the time she reaches high school. Work ethic, coaching, opportunity, physical development and the willingness to keep improving will shape this class as much as anything we see on a basketball court today.
That is also why we expanded the watchlist to 89 players. Once we got deeper into the class, we did not believe an arbitrary cutoff was more important than recognizing players who had earned our attention. This is a starting point, not a finish line.
Players Who Stand Out
With 89 players on the watchlist, there are plenty of names worth following, but a handful have already started to separate themselves through production, potential or what they have accomplished against strong competition.
Jaylah Marshall has already picked up multiple Division I offers and is building a national reputation as one of the top players in the Class of 2031. The attention is coming early, but so is the résumé. Marshall has established herself as one of the names to know in this Wisconsin class and increasingly beyond the state.
Nadia Brown may be one of the most complete players in the class. There simply is not much she cannot do on a basketball court. What continues to stand out, though, is her ability to meet big moments. When the competition gets better and the pressure increases, Brown consistently seems comfortable being in the middle of it.
Harper Rose Williams might be the most offensively skilled player in Wisconsin’s 2031 class. She can be a walking highlight film with the ball in her hands. Her handle, creativity and ability to create offense make her difficult to contain, and she has the kind of game that can make you stop and watch when she gets going. There are plenty of talented offensive players in this class, but Williams’ combination of ball handling and offensive skill makes her stand out.
At 6-foot-2, Kylee Campbell can be extremely difficult to stop when she gets the ball down low, but her game is becoming more than that. Her ability to play away from the basket continues to evolve. She has also been part of winning throughout the showcase circuit. Her team won the championship at the TYBC Showcase and went undefeated at the Prep Hoops showcase.
Ali Pritzl is already a familiar name around the Madison area. The pride of DeForest has built a reputation for dominating games well before reaching high school. If her development continues, expectations are going to be high when she eventually puts on a DeForest High School uniform. By then, people around the program may not simply be talking about winning games. They could be talking about competing for state championships.
Mikyla Hunt-Sutton is a name people in the Fox Valley continue to speak highly of. She has already tested herself against older competition, including playing up at the 15U level in some 3SSB games, and has competed at national camps. Those experiences should give her a valuable foundation as she continues to develop.
Then there is Rylee Woodard, whose physical upside immediately gets your attention. At 6-foot-2, Woodard may be one of the most athletic players in the class. Those around her say she is already dunking a tennis ball, and she was part of the Wisconsin Lakers 14U national championship team. The combination of size, athleticism and experience competing against older players makes her one of the more intriguing players to follow in Wisconsin’s 2031 class.
These seven are not meant to represent a ranking of the watchlist or suggest that they are the only players capable of emerging from this class. With players this young, development can happen quickly. They are simply seven players whose accomplishments, production or potential have already given Madison365 Sports reasons to pay particularly close attention.
The Wisconsin Class of 2031 Watchlist
The rest of the story is still being written. There will be players among these 89 who make significant jumps over the next year. Some will grow several inches. Others will develop a shot, improve their handle, become stronger or discover a position that better fits their game. There will almost certainly be players who are not on this watchlist today who force their way into the conversation. That is part of what makes following a class this young interesting.
Madison365 Sports will continue following the Class of 2031 through school basketball, AAU season, camps, showcases and other opportunities to see these players compete. We expect new players to emerge, roles to change and some of the names on this list to look very different a year from now.
