Madison Metropolitan School District Superintendent Jennifer Cheatham

Madison Metropolitan School District superintendent Jennifer Cheatham is expected to resign at the news conference Wednesday, Isthmus is reporting.

Isthmus reports that three school board members and other sources confirmed Cheatham’s plans.

Madison365 has not independently confirmed the reporrs. Neither the school board members nor MMSD spokesperson Rachel Strauch-Nelson responded to messages requesting comment.

Cheatham has been superintendent of MMSD since 2013. The past academic year has been a particularly tumultuous one, as a series of racist and racially tinged incidents involving teachers have occurred at several schools, and community members have disrupted school board meetings to protest the district’s response to those incidents as well as the district’s ongoing contract with the Madison Police Department.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
