Nominations sought for Jeffrey Clay Erlanger Civility in Public Discourse Award

0

The City of Madison is inviting the community to submit nominations for its annual Jeffrey Clay Erlanger Civility in Public Discourse Award.

This award honors Jeffrey Clay Erlanger, who was an individual of integrity, passion, intelligence and civility, according to a press release from the City, and who understood that thoughtful and caring people could have very different views on how to best address our community’s many complex issues and problems. Erlanger died on June 10, 2007.

“We have many area residents who have shown leadership through quiet determination, much like Jeff Erlanger. It’s been an honor to recognize them and celebrate them. I hope this year will pose another tough challenge for our selection committee as they review nominations,” said Madison Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway in a press release. “Our honorees over the years have come from many areas, a rabbi, neighborhood leaders, a poet laureate, City committee leaders, women’s health care advocates and others. The Council meeting at which we present this award is always heartwarming and inspiring.”

The Jeffrey Clay Erlanger Civility in Public Discourse Award has been expanded to recognize residents of the Madison metropolitan area. The applicants will share Jeff Erlanger’s dedication to, and passion for, public policy, civility, individual and human rights. The recipient will be an individual who conducts their daily life with these values and who has made a significant impact on the Madison community.

The recipient of the Erlanger Award, and the person who nominated them, will each be able to designate a non-profit charity to receive $250.
