Madison’s Palestine solidarity community will host a Solidarity Fair celebrating Palestine’s fall olive harvest on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2-4:30 p.m. at James Reeb Unitarian Universalist Congregation on Madison’s East Side.
The event will highlight the importance of olive trees to Palestinian families and communities amid ongoing violence and destruction. Organizers with the Madison-Rafah Sister City Project will invite attendees to sponsor an olive tree in the Madison-Masafer Yatta Olive Grove, supporting the replanting of trees destroyed by Israeli settlers and soldiers.
The fair will feature Palestinian snacks, a traditional Tatreez embroidery workshop, book-making by Andaleeb Cartonera, kite decorating, letter writing, advocacy activities and children’s programming, including story time and olive seed planting. Palestinian olive oil, crafts and embroidery will also be available for purchase.
The event will include a live feed of the People’s Tribunal on U.S. Government Complicity in Palestine, taking place in Seattle the same day. The visual exhibit Why We Record: Defying Fragmentation and Erasure in Palestine will also be on display.
The fair will be followed by kite-flying, weather permitting.
