Percentage of positive cornoavirus cases drop as death toll increases by 12

Wisconsin confirmed 545 more positive cases today as 12 more deaths were added to the state’s total. The Department of Health Services reports a new total for the state of 77,129 cases since the pandemic began. The rate of coronavirus tests returning positive fell to 6.5 percent today, down from yesterday’s 8.3 percent. Of the 77,129 cases, 7,328 are considered active.

Additionally, 12 reported deaths today brought the state’s total to 1,142 and were spread throughout the state. Three deaths were reported in Walworth County, and one death each in Fond du Lac, Grant, Kenosha, La Crosse, Milwaukee, Outagamie, Racine and Waukesha.  Eighteen people who tested positive for coronavirus infection have died of other causes, and are not counted as covid fatalities.

Today’s data brings the seven-day average of new cases to 696. Over the past seven days, the percentage of positive tests has averaged 8.0 percent, and 8.4 over the past 14 days.

Wisconsin has averaged six deaths per day over the past week and six per day over the past two weeks.

The highest local new case count came in Milwaukee County, with 74 new cases and 3.79 percent of tests coming back positive.

Brown County: 39 new cases, 5.38 percent positive tests
Dane County: 44 new cases, 3.25 percent positive tests
Dodge County: 12 new cases, 11.21 percent positive tests
Eau Claire County: 13 new cases, 2.37 percent positive tests
Fond du Lac County: 13 new cases, 5.37 percent positive tests
Kenosha County: 12 new cases, 11.65 percent positive tests Outagamie County: 34 new cases, 15.81 percent positive tests
Portage County: 19 new cases, 76 percent positive tests (with only 25 total tests run)
Racine County: 23 new cases, 16.20  percent positive tests
Rock County: 14 new cases, 11.29 percent positive tests
Sheboygan County: 22 new cases, 23.4 percent positive tests
Walworth County: 14 new cases, 14.29 percent positive tests
Washington County: 13 new cases, 6.74 percent positive tests
Waukesha County: 43 new cases, 8.41 percent positive tests
Winnebago County: 14 new cases, 45.16 percent positive tests (with only 31 total tests run)

Hospitalizations rose slightly to 295 currently hospitalized at the time of this reporting with COVID 19, five more than Tuesday and 59 fewer than a week ago. Of those, 100 are in ICUs, four more than Monday.
