Longtime incumbent Sondy Pope has defeated political newcomer Kimberly Smith in the Democratic primary in Assembly District 80, representing much of western Dane County.
With 77 percent of the vote counted, Pope held a lead of 67 percent to 33 percent.
Pope has held the seat for 17 years. She will face Republican challenger Chase Binnie in November.
