Positive coronavirus test rate rises again; 14-day average remains over 8 percent

Wisconsin confirmed 727 more positive cases and four more deaths on Thursday.

The Department of Health Services reports a new total for the state of 77,856 cases since the pandemic began. The rate of coronavirus tests returning positive rose to 7.9 percent today, up from yesterday’s 6.5 percent. Of the 77,856 cases, 7,328 are considered active.

Additionally, four reported deaths today brought the state’s total to 1,146 and were spread throughout the state. One death was reported in Jefferson, Kenosha,  Outagamie and Walworth Counties. Eighteen people who tested positive for coronavirus infection have died of other causes, and are not counted as covid fatalities.

Today’s data brings the seven-day average of new cases to 674 and the 14-day average to 677. Over the past seven days, the percentage of positive tests has averaged 8.0 percent, and 8.4 over the past 14 days.

Wisconsin has averaged five deaths per day over the past week and six per day over the past two weeks.

The highest local new case count came in Milwaukee County, with 117 new cases and 5.97 percent of tests coming back positive.

Eau Claire County: 22 new cases, 13.41 percent positive tests
Fond du Lac County: 31 new cases, 10.06 percent positive tests
Jefferson County: 14 new cases, 8.14 percent positive tests
Kenosha County: 22 new cases, 37.93 percent positive tests
La Crosse County: 31 new cases, 22.46 percent positive tests
Manitowoc County: 10 new cases, 21.74 percent positive tests
Outagamie County: 40 new cases, 14.34 percent positive tests
Portage County: 15 new cases, 9.87 percent positive tests
Racine County: 14 new cases, 3.19 percent positive tests
Rock County: 17 new cases, 12.14 percent positive tests
Sheboygan County: 12 new cases, 6.67 percent positive tests
St Croix County: 11 new cases, 12.94 percent positive tests
Washington County: 19 new cases, 43.18 percent positive tests
Waukesha County: 30 new cases, 7.83 percent positive tests
Waupaca County: 14 new cases, 9.66 percent positive tests
Winnebago County: 28 new cases, 5.73 percent positive tests
Wood County: 11 new cases, 7.53 percent positive tests

Hospitalizations fell slightly to 287 currently hospitalized at the time of this reporting with COVID 19, eight fewer than Wednesday and 57 fewer than a week ago. Of those, 91 are in ICUs, nine fewer than Wednesday.
