The state of Wisconsin reported 36 COVID deaths on Tuesday, and one previously reported in Jackson County was removed from the data, so the total death toll rose by 35 to 4,818. An additional 102 people have tested positive for COVID but died of other causes. With lower numbers of death certificates being processed over the holiday weekend, the seven-day average of reported deaths has fallen to 39, but the 14-day and 30-day averages are both 50.

The state also reported just under 7,400 new coronavirus tests on Monday, of which 2,755 were positive, for a positive test rate of 37.4 percent.

The seven-day positive rate for all people slipped from 25.4 to 25.1 percent and the positive rate for all tests increased from 8.9 to 9.2 percent. The number of active cases fell to just under 28,000 — about 5.8 percent of the 477,258 total cases the state has confirmed to date.

The seven-day average of new cases per day rose slightly to 2,283.
