President Donald Trump referred to former White House staffer Omarosa Manigault Newman as a “dog” this morning, prompting outrage by critics who said the comment was a racially charged attack. Manigault Newman was the only African-American to have served in a senior role in the White House under Trump.
“When you give a crazed, crying lowlife a break, and give her a job at the White House, I guess it just didn’t work out. Good work by General Kelly for quickly firing that dog!” Trump tweeted Tuesday.

The president’s harsh attacks on former aide Manigault Newman come as her book, “Unhinged: An Insider’s Account of the Trump White House,” is officially being released. Trump’s tweet came after he denied claims of racism from the book that states a tape exists of him using the N-word from his days on the reality TV show “The Apprentice.”
Manigault Newman, a veteran The Apprentice, makes a number of shocking claims about the president in her new book, including describing him as a man in “mental decline” who would “forget from one day to the next.”
