Veteran point guard Nick Boyd, who has three NCAA tournament appearances on his resume, has signed with the Wisconsin men’s basketball team, head coach Greg Gard announced.
“I’m thrilled to play at Wisconsin,” Boyd said in a press release. “It’s my last year and I wanted to finish up my career at a place where I’ll be able to showcase my skills at a high level in the Big Ten Conference. The coaching staff here has been together for a long time and most of them have playing experience here too, which spoke volumes to me about the culture.”
Last season with San Diego State, Boyd earned second-team Mountain West Conference honors as he led the Aztecs in scoring with a career-best 13.9 points per game while averaging 3.9 assists per contest, a career-high. The 6-3 guard also averaged 3.9 rebounds per game while leading SDSU to the NCAA tournament. Boyd authored a pair of 20-point games last season, scoring 23 against Gonzaga and 24 vs. Boise State.
“We are thrilled to add someone as talented and experienced as Nick,” Gard said. “He is a big-time leader and winner and we know he’ll fit into our locker room from day one. He’s been on the biggest stage, starting for Florida Atlantic’s 2023 Final Four team and played a lot of high-level basketball. Everyone we talked to throughout the process stressed his tremendous leadership and his ability to impact winning. He wanted to test his game at the highest level and add to a program with a winning culture. We think this will be a great fit for both Nick and Wisconsin.”
