Savion Castro has won the School Board race for Seat 2.
Castro ran opposed in tonight’s race after first being appointed to the school board to fill the seat left open by Mary Burke’s resignation in the summer of 2019. Castro was one of nearly 30 people who applied for consideration of the appointment.
“Thank you to the City of Madison and our MMSD family for your continued support,” Castro tells Madison365. “Serving our students and educators remains my biggest focus right now and am beyond honored to continue doing so. I remain fully committed to building MMSD that heals injustices, embraces Black Excellence, and bring our district to the forefront of education in the 21st century.”
Castro is a graduate of MMSD schools and a UW-Madison PEOPLE Scholar. He’s currently a teaching assistant at UW Odyssey Project. He has also been the campaign manager for Student Alliance for Prison Reform, an Opportunity Leader at Opportunity Nation and served on the staff of State Rep. Shelia Stubbs.
