The UW Odyssey Project Class of 2024 Graduation Ceremony will be held Wednesday, May 1, 6 p.m., at the Great Hall of the University of Wisconsin-Madison Memorial Union, 800 Langdon St.

UW Odyssey Class of 2024

Odyssey staff, alumni, and supporters will celebrate students’ successful completion of six UW credits following two semesters studying challenging works of literature, American history, art history, and philosophy. Emily Auerbach, a professor of English and the executive director of the UW-Madison Odyssey Project, tells Madison365 that this year’s class has broken all previous attendance and homework completion rates for the past 21 years.

The UW Odyssey Project takes a whole family approach to breaking the cycle of generational poverty through access to education, giving adult and youth learners a voice, and increasing confidence through reading, writing, and speaking. The program started in 2003 when Auerbach and poet and journalist Jean Feraca had an idea to develop an outreach program in the humanities for nontraditional students. The two-semester jumpstart course has continued to grow over the years and has launched a variety of programs out of the original including Onward OdysseyOdyssey Beyond BarsOdyssey Beyond WarsOdyssey SeniorOdyssey Junior and more.

The Odyssey Class of 2024 Graduation Ceremony will be a hybrid event that will be both in-person at the UW Memorial Union and broadcast via Zoom. To watch the Zoom, register here.

The event will include music, refreshments, heavy appetizers, and an appearance by Bucky Badger. All 30 students are graduating with six UW-Madison credits. Four of this year’s graduating students have had parents in the class previously.
