Are you looking to make a difference in the lives of your Dane County neighbors? Become a volunteer with St. Vincent de Paul — Madison! It’s not just about stocking pantry shelves or filling prescriptions – volunteering is a great way to connect with your neighbors, learn new skills, and be part of something bigger than yourself. Plus, it’s a lot of fun! Here’s what makes volunteering with SVdP Madison such a rewarding experience.

Why Volunteer?

When you volunteer, your care does good. You’ll help families get enough food to eat and help uninsured patients get the medications they need. Volunteering will give you the chance to meet new people, gain valuable experiences, and feel good about contributing to your community.

A Variety of Roles to Fit Your Skills

Every volunteer has something unique to offer. There are a range of volunteer positions at the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry and Charitable Pharmacy that cater to different skills and interests.

Positions at Food Pantry:

  • Provide food to families through outdoor drive-through service (URGENT NEED)
  • Pack boxes of pantry staples and nonperishable items
  • Stock pantry shelves / tables
  • Receive, sort and package food in pantry warehouse
  • Fill online orders as a “personal shopper”

Positions at Charitable Pharmacy:

  • Welcome patients into the pharmacy
  • Assist patients with getting over-the-counter medications
  • Prepare and fill medications with staff pharmacists
  • Provide interpretation services to Spanish-speaking patients

The Benefits of Volunteering

Volunteering at SVdP Madison will give you a sense of accomplishment knowing you’ve helped your neighbors in need. Here are some other benefits you can expect:

  • Meet New People: Volunteering is a great way to meet new friends as well as strengthen existing connections with friends, family or coworkers. As a volunteer, you’ll typically interact with people from diverse backgrounds, which allows you to learn other perspectives.
  • Find Your Purpose: You may be able to find your purpose through volunteering and become part of something greater than yourself. For instance, if you’re retired, unexpectedly unemployed or have lost a loved one, helping others can give your life new meaning and keep you mentally stimulated.
  • Expand Your Skillset: The training and hands-on experience you gain while volunteering can help you learn new skills as well as build upon ones you already have. You can put these skills on your resume to show employers how you build relationships outside of work in addition to any personal interests that can set you apart from other candidates.
