Benton Named Distinguished Teacher of the Year at Madison College

Charles Benton, Ph.D., was named Distinguished Teacher of the Year for 2018 by Madison Area Technical College’s chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society, according to a Madison College press release.

Benton, a full-time biology instructor at Madison College’s Truax Campus, has taught anatomy and physiology at the college for 10 years. He was nominated for the award by students and chosen by the PTK executive board.

Benton received his doctorate in Physiology from the North Carolina State University where he also earned a bachelor’s degree. He is the co-coordinator of the STEM Scholars Program which supports minority students who are just beginning their college-level STEM coursework. The program is funded by a grant from the Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation.
