Trump Dumped, Pence Passes: GOP Ticket No Longer Represented at Wisconsin Event Today

House of Representatives Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wisconsin) apparently uninvited Donald Trump from a planned joint appearance at a fundraising event in Elkhorn today following the revelation of the Republican presidential nominee’s extremely lewd comments about women.

Republicans announced yesterday that Vice Presidential nominee Mike Pence would represent Trump at the event, but Politico reporter Matthew Nussbaum, who covers the Pence campaign, reported Saturday that Pence had decided not to attend the event.

No reason is given for Pence passing on the event, though many on social media are speculating that Pence, who may have future presidential aspirations, has decided to keep a low profile and not be seen as a representative of the politically damaged Trump.

The revelation of Trump’s comments, recorded in a video obtained by The Washington Post, has spurred rebukes, retracted endorsements and even calls for Trump to drop out of the race.

The event, the First District’s GOP Fall Festival, will still feature Ryan, Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson, Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker, Wisconsin Attorney General Brad Schimel, Wisconsin State Treasurer Matt Adamczyk, RNC Chairman Reince Priebus
and RPW Chairman Brad Courtney, according to the event’s Facebook page.
