A Win for Love? Hate Group Cancels 67 Rallies in 36 States

ACT For America, which the Southern Poverty Law Center classifies as an extremist hate group, has cancelled 67 rallies scheduled for September 9 in 36 states.

Organizers said in a statement that the cancellation comes in “an abundance of caution” due to “the recent violence in America and in Europe.”

Over this past weekend, a similar rally drew fewer than 100 white nationalists and more than 20,000 counterprotesters. That turnout followed a much larger demonstration in Charlottesville, Virginia, which turned violent and resulted in dozens of injuries and one homicide.

The September 9 rallies were initially conceived to show support for “‘America First’ security policies proposed by President Trump,” according to a press release given exclusively to far-right media outlet Breitbart News.

The rallies will be replaced with an online “Day of ACTion.” It is not yet clear what that will entail.
