The 100 Black Men of Madison will host its annual Back to School Celebration

The 100 Black Men of Madison will once again be hosting their annual Back to School Celebration this Saturday, Aug. 5, 8-11 a.m. at the Truax Campus of Madison College on 1750 Wright St.

The event will be the 28th annual event for the 100 Black Men of Madison, who have provided over 42,000 free backpacks filled with school supplies over the years. Along with those supplies, the local non-profit organization also looks to offer other services and resources for families at the event.

The 100 Black Men of Madison welcome all Dane County elementary and middle school students of limited-income families and their parents to come and participate. Students accompanied by their parents will receive one backpack with a limit of one per child while supplies last.

For the students to receive a backpack, they must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, and any parents or legal guardians wishing to receive a backpack must be accompanied by the child receiving the backpack.

Families will also have access to vaccinations, health screens, voter registration, and registration for the upcoming academic year. For many years, this event was held at Demetral Park on Madison’s near east side. As the event grew, the Madison College campus location helped the 100 Black Men of Madison further their community reach.
