MADISON, Wis. — Barry Alvarez, the athletic director at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, is set to receive the Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame Lifetime Achievement Award on June 5 at the 70th induction, according to a release.

Alvarez started with the university’s football team in 1990 when the Wisconsin Badgers had lost 36 games over the previous four seasons. Alvarez eventually went on to become the coach with the most wins in school history, the release said. He coached three Big Ten Championships and Rose Bowl games and is is the only Big Ten coach to win the Rose Bowl in consecutive seasons.

“I am thrilled to be receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame,” Alvarez said. “The years I have spent in the state of Wisconsin have been very special to me and my family. I have met so many wonderful people along the way and I am very proud of what we have collectively achieved at UW Athletics over the past 30 years.”

Alvarez is in his 17th year as athletic director at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

He is a member of the College Football Hall of Fame, the Rose Bowl Hall of Fame and UW Athletics Hall of Fame, among many other honors.

Brett Favre and Jordy Nelson will be induction into the 70th-anniversary class on the same day Alvarez will receive the lifetime achievement award.
