The Bronzeville Center for the Arts (BCA) in Milwaukee unveiled a new community mural on Friday on the exterior of Gallery 507, its headquarters and gallery space at 507 W. North Ave. in Milwaukee’s historic Bronzeville District.
“This mural stands as a shining example of what we can achieve through collaboration. It’s a testament to the power of partnership and the incredible things we can accomplish when we unite our diverse talents toward a common goal,” said Kristen Hardy, the board chair of BCA, in a statement.
Mayor Cavalier Johnson and Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs joined the BCA in unveiling the community mural, which celebrates the rich artistic history of Milwaukee’s Bronzeville.
“As we admire this mural, let’s celebrate not only the final product but also the collaborative spirit that made it possible,” said Johnson. “This is the kind of community-driven creativity that will continue to define and elevate Bronzeville’s artistic legacy.”
The 8 ft. by 24 ft. mural titled “Homage to Bronzeville, A Legacy in Paint” was created in 2022 during Bronzeville Week, according to a press release from BCA, and local artist and MIAD Professor Brad Anthony Bernard led the mural project in collaboration with several art students. The mural installation also marks the completion of the construction of Gallery 507, the BCA’s first development in the heart of Bronzeville.
