Dane County adds 48 coronavirus cases as number of active cases drop

Dane County confirmed 48 new coronavirus cases this morning which brings the County’s total to 3,298. Of those 3,298 cases, 1,180 are considered currently active – whi a drop from yesterday’s number of 1,199 for the county.

There were 14 new cases in people in their 20s while six were in those between the ages of 10-19 and three cases below the age of 9. Those in their 30s also experienced a double-digit growth with new cases today totaling 12 while those in their 40s and 50s each grew by five. There were also three more cases for those in their 60s.

Dane County reported no new deaths, which keeps the county’s total at 33 today. Total hospitalizations for the county for COVID-19 grew today to 256 with 29 currently hospitalized for COVID-19. Of those 29 cases, eight are reportedly in the ICU. Of those new hospitalizations, two are in their 50s and one is in their 70s.

Of the 48 new cases reported today, 14, or 29.17 percent, were attributed to those who identify as Black. They now make up 12.6 percent of all cases while only making up five percent of the population in Dane County. There were also four new cases, or 8.33 percent of all new cases, for those who identify as Hispanic. Hispanic people now make up 15.07 percent of all COVID-19 related cases in the County while only making up five percent of the population.

As the number of negative tests reported is lagged by several days, the most updated data on positive test percentage for a day is for July 9, when the positive test percentage has been updated to 6.55 percent while updated numbers now have July 8 at 5.75 percent. Though some data for the dates for July 10 – 12 are available, Madison365 expects that number to adjust considerably as more negative and positive tests are attributed to those dates in the coming days.

Testing is still available today at Alliant Energy Center from 8am – 4pm.

Today’s data are not included, but will be included in an update next week.
