Today, Dane County Executive Joe Parisi announced the addition of a new Diversity Recruitment Specialist in the Tamara Grigsby Office for Equity and Inclusion, Carrie Braxton. The Tamara Grigsby Office for Equity and Inclusion, a part of County executive Parisi’s Access to Opportunity initiative, coordinates the County’s efforts to recruit and retain a diverse workforce while ensuring county government sends a clear message: we are inclusive to all.
“The Tamara Grigsby Office for Equity and Inclusion is an opportunity for us to act, and lead,” said Parisi. “This bold reorganization is a clear statement that we in county government are committed, coordinated, and not content with the status quo when it comes to the inequities some experience in our community.”
The Diversity Recruitment Specialist will be a visible presence in the community to connect people with the opportunities we have. She will focus on recruiting deep pools of candidates with diverse background and skill sets. Carrie will be out in the community at job recruitment fairs and working with departments to find out barriers to reach different communities.
Carrie Braxton previously worked in the Dane County District Attorney’s office as the Lead District Attorney Worker of the Criminal Traffic Unit. She has also worked for Dane County Human Services in the Adult Community Services – Developmental Disabilities Unit. Carrie is a graduate of MATC and Upper Iowa University obtaining a Master’s Degree. She is active in the community and is a Board member of the Racial Equality and Social Justice (RESJ) Committee, Warner Park Community Center, Eken Park Condominiums, and is a Committee member of Eken Park Neighborhood Association. She is married to Don and they have a blended family, and she has lived in Madison for 30 years.
“County Executive Parisi’s directive to our office has been clear we must make progress toward equity in Dane County,” said Wes Sparkman, Director of the Tamara Grigsby Office for Equity and Inclusion. “Carrie is a great addition to our team she is outgoing, motivated and has a deep desire to help others.”
Parisi launched Access to Opportunity in 2015 to break down barriers to success that too many face in our community. The most reliable vehicle out of poverty and toward upward mobility is accessing and maintaining family sustaining employment.
The office for Equity and Inclusion is named after Tamara Grigsby who was a champion for equity and social justice and was instrumental in the creation of this office.
