Darrell Bazzell, currently the vice chancellor for finance and administration at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, has been appointed senior vice president and chief financial officer of The University of Texas at Austin.

“Darrell brings to the university 13 years of experience in developing strong campus services and efficiencies at a top-ranked public university,” UT Austin President Gregory L. Fenves said in a statement. “I am pleased to welcome him to UT Austin. His collaborative style and his financial expertise will allow us to continue to support our teaching, research and service missions and to move the university forward.”

Bazzell graduated from UW-Madison in 1984 with a degree in sociology and went on to hold various policy and budget analyst positions in state government. From 2001 to 2003, he served as secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, capping off 10 years of service to that department.
Bazzell has been serving as the Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration at the University of Wisconsin-Madison since January of 2003. In this capacity, he serves as the university’s chief financial officer, and is responsible for the overall supervision of the university’s administrative and auxiliary functions, including budget, facilities planning and management, business services, research administration, human resources, police services, housing, health services, student unions and recreational sports. He also serves as a senior advisor to the Chancellor and Provost on financial and administrative policies and practices.

“I am deeply appreciative of Darrell’s numerous contributions and wise counsel during my time as chancellor,” UW-Madison Chancellor Rebecca Blank said in a statement. “He is a consummate professional who has been an important player in all aspects of life at the university.”

Bazzell’s appointment begins April 18.
