The UW-Madison Chicanx/e and Latinx/e Studies program will celebrate its 50th anniversary with Desde 1976: Education, Culture, and Community on Oct. 16-17 at Irving & Dorothy Levy Hall on the UW-Madison campus.
The celebration will honor five decades of preparing students for successful careers, advancing research on Chicanx/e and Latinx/e populations, and collaborating with local communities.
The CLS Program will host a symposium celebrating 50 years of preparing students for successful careers, advancing knowledge of Latine populations and building connections between the university and Latine communities in Wisconsin and beyond.
On Friday, Oct. 16, events will include the opening of an exhibit highlighting the program’s history and an opening panel. Saturday, Oct. 17, will feature a full day of panels exploring the program’s contributions, with alumni, faculty, community partners and others. On Monday, Oct. 19, the program will host a discussion on comparative racialization featuring distinguished scholars whose work examines divisions among racial and ethnic groups.
