Fewer tests, more cases reported in Wisconsin

The state of Wisconsin reported just under 3,200 new coronavirus tests on Tuesday, the lowest in several weeks, of which 1,095 were positive, for a positive test rate of about 34 percent. The seven-day average of new cases per day has fallen to 1,292.

The state of Wisconsin also reported 40 COVID deaths on Tuesday, increasing the total death toll to 5,937. Since March, an additional 190 people have tested positive for COVID but died of other causes. The seven-day average of reported deaths fell to 26.3.

The seven-day positive rate for all people tested, which would be less subject day to day fluctuations in testing, rose slightly from 19.5 to 19.7 percent, while the positive rate for all tests fell from 5.4 to 5.1 percent, the lowest to date.

The state also reported Thursday that 108,713 Wisconsin residents have completed the COVID-19 vaccination series, almost 7,200 more since yesterday. In all, 568,794 vaccine doses have been administered, more than 25,400 since yesterday.

The estimated number of active cases — diagnosed in the past 30 days — fell slightly to just under 17,809, about 3.27 percent of the 544,261 total cases confirmed in Wisconsin.
