Michael Drejka

A white Florida man who fatally shot Markeis McGlockton after McGlockton shoved him in a Clearwater, Florida, convenience store parking lot was charged with manslaughter today.

Michael Drejka, 47, invoked the “stand your ground” self-defense after shooting and killing McGlockton, who is black, in a dispute over a parking space. The death of McGlockton, a father of three, has sparked national outrage.

McGlockton and Drejka got into an argument in a convenience Circle A Food store parking lot in Clearwater, Fla., over a parking spot. According to deputies, Drejka confronted McGlockton’s girlfriend, Britany Jacobs, about parking in a handicap space without a permit. McGlockton pushed Drejka with both hands according to the video before Drejka shot him while he was sitting on the ground.

Drejka was arrested Monday morning and booked into Pinellas County Jail. His bail is set at $100,000, the sheriff’s office said.
