Several school districts around Dane County have posted instructions for students to receive lunch and breakfast from the schools during the closure.
On Sunday, Public Health Madison and Dane County ordered all schools closed immediately, after Governor Tony Evers ordered schools closed beginning March 18.
The Madison Metropolitan School District has announced neighborhood food sites, where lunch and breakfast food will be distributed while schools are closed to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Food distribution for MMSD students will take place at the following times and locations:

The Monona Grove School District School Nutrition Department will be providing FREE pre-packaged, grab-and-go Breakfast and Lunch to any child age 18 and under. In order to ensure that enough meals are available we are asking families to complete the following meal request form no later than 11:59 pm the prior day. School Nutrition staff will prepare and along with Nelson’s Bus Service deliver meals to each of the identified site at the time published on a daily basis (Monday thru Friday). Each day children ages 18 and under will receive two (2) pre-packaged meals (lunch for the day of and breakfast for the following day) FREE.

Access to Meals: We have moved up our timeline for providing meals to students. Beginning March 16, 2020 (through the mandatory period of school closure, including spring break) we will implement the following schedule for those students needing access to breakfast and lunch:

Meal Planning:
We are very aware of challenges that school closures create for families. The District is making the following preparations:
- Food bags from Friends of Oregon School District (FOSD) intended for Spring Break are being prepared today. The distribution plan to families who receive these bags will be finalized in the next 24 hours.
- OSD is working on a plan to offer breakfast/lunch for any student who would like access to meals. We are working on the details and will share this plan Monday (3/16).
- Community members interested in helping can make a monetary donation to FOSD, which will funnel the funds to OSD to help pay for this expanded food service program.

Food Service
We are also committed to providing food service for families in need. We will be operating from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the following school sites beginning Wednesday, March 18th. No family will be turned away, even if they do not attend one of these schools. Children must be present at distribution, and each child will receive a lunch and a breakfast for the next morning. Please know that due to the circumstances, there will be limited availability for those with dietary needs, including gluten-free and allergies.
Drive-through food service will be available from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the following sites:
- CH Bird Elementary – 1170 N. Bird Street
- Westside Elementary – 1320 Buena Vista Drive
- Northside Elementary – 230 W. Klubertanz Drive
Verona School District:
Meal Distribution: Free cold lunches and breakfasts will be available for all students age 18 and under on a grab-and-go basis from 10:30 -11:30 a.m. starting Tuesday, March 17th through Friday, March 20th at the following locations:
